This is the page where formal nomination for administratorship are recorded and archived. An explanation of what administrator or "sysop" rights are can be found at the administrator project page.

Requirements[]

There are no concrete requirements for a user to be an admin. However, admins will usually:

  • Have a very strong history of contributions (including the content namespace), though quality is more important than quantity
  • Be trusted by the community
  • Have no history of serious blocks due to vandalism or sockpuppetry

Procedures[]

  • Users must have 50 edits and be a regular contributor for a month to be able to vote or nominate.
  • Users who have been absent for extended periods of time (3 months or more) will be considered as "new users" for the purposes of nomination and must make 50 edits and be contributor for a further month before voting.
  • Users must have rollback rights to be nominated for adminship.

Stage 1: Nominating[]

  1. When this page is opened, users may be nominated by others. Statements must be fewer than 100 words.
  2. If the candidate accepts a nomination, community members may ask the candidate any questions they may have. The candidate may choose not to answer.
  3. At the end of one week, nominations are closed, questions are closed and voting is opened.

Stage 2: Voting[]

  1. When voting begins, community members may do the following (providing a reason behind their position):
    1. Place one "support" vote under the candidate of their choice.
    2. Place one "oppose" and/or "neutral" vote under as many candidates as the user feels strongly about.
  2. At the end of two weeks, voting is closed. Voting is also closed if there are no votes for three days.

Stage 3: Resolving[]

  1. The candidate with the highest number of well-reasoned support votes and a very low percentage of well-reasoned neutral/oppose votes (therefore fulfilling "consensus") is promoted. Strength of argument is always of strong importance.
    1. If the candidate with the most support votes has a high rate of opposition, then the next candidates in order of number of support votes will be considered until one is found with a suitably low rate of opposition.
    2. Any draws will be resolved by choosing the candidate with the highest support from current admins. If there is a draw in admin votes, then the process will start again from stage 2 with only two candidates.
